About us

Who we are

Here at Opendoor Church we love God and we love each other. We look to apply what we read in the Bible to our lives and to be not just hearers of the Word but live it out in our everyday lives. We are currently living with a prophetic vision which was given to us some years ago, but which has been echoed by recent prophecies to bring it back to the fore-front of what we want to be. This vision is to be a church among the people, very much active in serving our community as well as being church together, caring for one another and growing together as disciples. The vision was to change our view of church from being inwardly focussed to looking outside of ourselves to those who don’t yet know Jesus and serving them practically and spiritually.

BEING CHURCH

We aspire to be growing as disciples, secure in our identity in Jesus and encouraging one another to become more like Jesus by learning together and inviting others to hold us to account. We desire to include Jesus in more of our lives so that being church is as much a part of our whole week and not just for Sundays. We pray for and expect to see the Holy Spirit working in our lives, bringing prophetic insight, words of knowledge and promptings for us to act. We recognise that we can do nothing without God so spending time with Him in prayer is key to all that we do and we are committed to seeing the prayer life of the church grow.

SERVING THE TOWN

Our work in our town takes a number of forms with groups for kids and youth on Sundays and during the week, and fellowship groups during the week including some which include people who are not yet part of the church. With other churches in St Neots we run a Foodbank and fund a Youth for Christ youth worker working into the secondary schools where we also provide support for mentoring of students. Our Community page has more details of this.

OUR HOME
We currently rent premises in which to do our work using the Priory Centre for the majority of our Sunday meetings and our Open Door Church Centre (ODCC) for most of the other activities and our church administration. But for more than a decade now we have been living with the promise of a building of our own and have been raising funds towards this end. So far we have not yet found the right building but we remain in faith that we will and continue to build funds for when we do.

OUR PURPOSE

All we do is motivated by our Christian faith and desire to follow Jesus. We exist to help people receive God’s love for themselves, to respond by putting him first in every area of life and to display God’s love to all people.

OUR CULTURE

In relating together and with others, we intentionally pursue a culture of love, honour and courage, being a joyful community and devoted to becoming more like Jesus.

OUR BELIEFS

We are signed up with the Evangelical Alliance and subscribe to their basis of faith.

We particularly value the message of grace, that we are restored into relationship with God and receive life to the full as a gift, available only through the work of Jesus and not at all by our own efforts. We consider the Bible to be God’s word to us and the plumb-line for all we believe, teach and do, so we encourage people to read it regularly and apply it in their lives. When someone decides to follow Jesus we encourage them to be baptised in water. We also recognise the importance of being continually filled with the Holy Spirit to bring transformation and equipping for life, both personally and for us together as a church.

OUR WIDER FAMILY

We are connected into Catalyst, a network of churches, which is part of the worldwide Newfrontiers family. This partnership helps give us a larger vision and catches us up in the work of the global Church. Here we build strong relationships with other leaders and access resources, teaching and equipping. Very importantly, this also provides support and accountability for our leadership team. For more info visit www.catalystnetwork.org.

OUR LEADERSHIP

Opendoor has a team of elders (or pastors) who set the vision and spiritual direction of the church. They are assisted by a staff team and many other volunteers who lead in different areas of church life. As a UK charity we have a board of Trustees who oversee the church legally and financially.
